Jubilee Tour - The Holy Sites in Rome
THE PRIVATE CHRISTIAN TOUR OF ROME
Description
Pope Francis proclaimed the Jubilee Year of Mercy starting on December 8, 2015, and this private tour gives you the opportunity to learn more about the meaning of this event as you visit the major and most representative religious sites of Rome.
Escorted by your English-speaking driver, visit the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Wall, the Basilica of St. Praxedis, and the Patriarchal Basilica of St. Mary Major, and gain a more in-depth experience than you would on most typical tours of the city’s Christian sites. You will discover hidden secrets and treasures of these landmarks and learn about their significance to the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Even though the Jubilee Year has been proclaimed over, the spirit of such a memorable year will continue, and you will feel its essence with us.
Activity details
PICK UP TIME Suggested 8:00 am to avoid big crowds during the first part of the morning (it is flexible and you can decide when).
ST MARY THE MAJOR After hotel pickup, your private Rome tour begins with a visit to the Patriarchal Basilica of St. Mary Major, the first church in Rome dedicated to the Virgin Mary and custodian to planks of wood believed to be part of the crib at Jesus’ birth. In the Borghese Chapel, see the image of Mary and child, attributed to St. Luke, and view the final resting place of Pope Paul V.
BASILICA OF ST. PRAXEDIS Continue to the Basilica of St. Praxedis, a church near St. Mary Major that houses a segment of the alleged pillar upon which Jesus was flogged and tortured before his death.
HOLY CROSS IN JERUSALEM Then proceed to the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem, where St. Helen, mother of Emperor Constantine, brought back soil from Jerusalem for the church to be constructed on. This site guards purported relics during Jesus’ crucifixion, including a piece of the Holy Cross, a nail, and thorns from the crown.
THE HOLY STEPS Next, head to the Holy Steps, a Passionist monastery that houses the marble steps at Pontius Pilate that Jesus walked up to his crucifixion. Because the Holy Doors of the Basilicas are now closed, right in this place you will have the chance to obtain the Plenary Indulgence, if you wish, by climbing the stairs on your knees.
ST JOHN IN LATHERAN Afterward, visit the Papal Archbasilica of St. John in Lateran, the cathedral church of Rome.
ST PAUL OUTSIDE THE WALL Finally, visit the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Wall, dedicated to St. Paul the apostle. Your tour ends with the drop off at your hotel.
The Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy officially ended November 20, 2016, but through this tour, we will be able to live it over its final date. Understanding its meaning will be very important! Come with us.
