Duration: 7 Hours

Description

Pope Francis proclaimed the Jubilee Year of Mercy starting on December 8, 2015 and AGAIN in 2025! Are we ready for it? This private tour gives you the opportunity to learn more about the meaning of this event as you visit the major and most representative religious sites of Rome. Escorted by your English-speaking driver, visit the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Wall, the Basilica of St. Praxedis, and the Patriarchal Basilica of St. Mary Major, and gain a more in-depth experience than you would on most typical tours of the city’s Christian sites. You’ll discover hidden secrets and treasures of these landmarks and learn about their significance to the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Even though the Jubilee Year will be proclaimed over, the spirit of such a memorable year will continue, and you will feel its essence with us.

Activity details

PICK UP TIME Suggested 8:00 am to avoid big crowds during the first part of the morning (it is flexible and you can decide when).

BASILICA OF ST PAUL OUTSIDE THE WALLS The Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls (Italian: Basilica Papale di San Paolo fuori le Mura) is one of Rome’s four major papal basilicas, along with the basilicas of Saint John in the Lateran, Saint Peter’s, and Saint Mary Major, as well as one of the city’s Seven Pilgrim Churches.

BASILICA OF ST PRAXEDIS commonly known in Italian as Santa Prassede, it is an early medieval titular church and minor basilica located near the papal basilica of Saint Mary Major, on Via di Santa Prassede.
Dedicated to the second-century Saint Praxedes, who with her sister Pudentiana, was said to have provided comfort and care to Christians persecuted in the Roman Empire.[1][2] Since 1198 the church has been served by Benedictine monks of the Vallombrosian order.

ST MARY THE MAJOR The Basilica of Saint Mary Major or church of Santa Maria Maggiore (also referred to as Santa Maria delle Nevi from its Latin origin Sancta Maria ad Nives), is one of the four major papal basilicas as well as one of the Seven Pilgrim Churches of Rome and the largest Marian church in Rome, Italy. Santa Maria Maggiore is the first Marian sanctuary in the Western world and the mother of all sanctuaries.

TIME FOR A BREAK You’ll decide what to eat and which kind of lunch to go for. We will give you several options (something quick to go, something intermediate for a pizza or a salad, or something authentic off-the-beaten-path only where locals eat).

ST JOHN IN LATHERAN Explore the Cathedral of Rome. The seat of the Archibishop of Rome. Also known as Sant Giovanni in Laterano, an explosion of beauty.

HOLY STAIRS The Scala Sancta (English: Holy Stairs, Italian: Scala Santa) are a set of 28 white marble steps located in an edifice on extraterritorial property of the Holy See in Rome, Italy proximate to the Archbasilica of Saint John in Laterano.
According to Catholic Church tradition, the Holy Stairs were the steps leading up to the praetorium of Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem on which Jesus Christ stepped on his way to trial during his Passion. The Stairs reputedly were brought to Rome by Saint Helena in the fourth century.
