SAINT MARK’S SQUARE also known as Piazza San Marco in Italian, is the principal public square of Venice. While it is unarguably one of the most visited sights in the city, it boasts of a history that dates all the way back to the 9th century.
SAINT MARK’ BASILICA was begun in its original form in 829 (consecrated in 832) as an ecclesiastical structure to house and honour the remains of St. Mark that had been brought from Alexandria.
DOGE’S PALACE A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the Doge’s Palace is an impressive structure composed of layers of building elements and ornamentation, from its 14th and 15th century original foundations to the significant Renaissance and opulent Mannerist adjunctions.
